The G7 is a coordination forum for the richest economies of the world and also serves to prepare their G20 position. The G20, by nature, takes a more global perspective, including a wider variety of income levels and governance systems – and where naturally also the national interests are more diverging across the 20 partners. Where is the common ground? What goals and values are shared by all countries? What role and responsibilities do the G7 and G20 have in the global international community? How can conflicting transformations be avoided and how can the G7 and G20 foster a broad global alliance, including the buy-in of countries beyond the Groups of 7/20, in the face of global challenges?
