This task force focuses on social and environmental challenges to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and Paris climate change agreement commitments after COVID-19.
It takes into account persistent inequality and pressures on livelihoods, amplified by the COVID-19 pandemic, which have hampered health and wellbeing and exacerbated poverty. It seeks to promote coordinated action to strengthen social protection, including sustainable financing for social safety nets, global health security, demographic transition, labor mobility, and education policies. It is also considering ways to address climate change and environmental stresses while ensuring no one is left behind and that the benefits of a low-carbon and climate resilient future are shared by all.
Suggested policy brief topics include: (i) strengthening wellbeing, diversifying livelihoods, and achieving social inclusion; (ii) achieving a healthy and educated population; (iii) climate and environmental policies and finance; and (iv) implementing the principles for a just transition to maximize the benefits of achieving climate targets for all while minimizing associated costs.
